Defending Clients Against Drug Possession Charges in Stamford, Westport, and Fairfield County

greenwich drug possession attorney

The possession of illegal drugs, or the possession of prescription drugs without a valid prescription, will lead to far-ranging legal problems. If you or someone you love has been charged with a drug crime, it is important to seek out an experienced attorney as soon as possible.

I am Douglas J. Wells, a Greenwich defense lawyer who handles drug possession charges. With more than 35 years of legal experience, I know how to protect your rights and I will work diligently to help you avoid the worst consequences of a criminal charge.

Defending Against Marijuana Charges and Seeking Alternative Sentencing

Connecticuts marijuana laws have undergone significant changes. The state has legalized medical marijuana and has decriminalized the possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana. Now, possession of less than half an ounce is treated as an infraction, punishable by a small fine. Further, an infraction is not considered a criminal offense.

That said, possession of larger amounts of marijuana or any quantity of other illegal drugs can lead to criminal penalties. When you work with me, I will look closely at the circumstances of your case, reviewing the evidence and any criminal history. If this is your first offense, you may be eligible for the Drug Education Program. If you complete this program successfully, your charges will be dismissed.

Taking a Strategic Approach to Criminal Defense

If the Drug Education Program is not a viable option, I will investigate the evidence to see whether the police violated your rights at any point. If there is evidence that your rights were violated, pretrial motions can be filed with the court, which could result in your case being resolved in your favor. Over my career, my experienced, strategic approach has led to successful results time and again.
